A Surprise Makeover for Denise Bragdon
GIVING BACK AND REWARDING A DESERVING PERSON WAS THE INITIAL IDEA WHEN THE WONDERFUL TEAM AT COMPLETELY PAMPERED SPA AND PANAMA CITY LIVING STAFF STUCK THEIR HEADS TOGETHER TO PLAN A SURPRISE MAKEOVER.
The ideal candidate would have to be a deserving person… someone respected and loved, a woman, they decided, who dedicates her time to others, and just rarely to herself.
An email was sent to Tammy Teresa Dunnaway, Executive Director of Girls Inc., to help find that one deserving lady who would appreciate a special pampered day just to herself. Tammy responded promptly: “I have currently one person in mind, Denise Bragdon, she has worked for Girls Inc. for 30 years and is our Operations Director, an incredible business woman, mother, community activist, and definitely puts herself absolutely last when it comes to pampering. She has lost 70 pounds this year and really looks fantastic, but a little update and pampering would be wonderful. She is not just working for us but also volunteers for research projects to prevent and cure cancer at Gulf Coast Medical Center and Relay for Life. She is a regular blood and platelets donor and she helps families over and beyond work. I think Denise is a unique human being who constantly does for others. She is a beautiful soul. I can think of no one who you will be more proud of doing this for.”
And our deserving candidate was found! A woman who really makes a difference in other people’s lives, a deserving woman who might just have forgotten to put herself first every now and then.
It helped tremendously that Tammy is Denise’s boss. Tammy could easily conspire with us to whisk Denise away for a day.
Denise was asked to come to Girls Inc. on a Saturday – she was told she would be needed all day at work. Once at work, Tammy let her know that they would have to do fieldwork and the both of them showed up shortly afterwards at Completely Pampered Spa, Denise in her usual outfit: Large Girls Inc. T-Shirt, Bermudas and Sneakers, no frills, no makeup.
Still unassuming, Denise shook staff’s hands and then was told what to expect for the day. She was not here to work, she was here to enjoy. Her reaction was nothing short of flabbergasted but very happy nonetheless. One or the other happy tear was shed and luckily, tissues are always within reach in a spa -as all of us needed them.
What followed were six hours of pure bliss: A full body wrap by Heather Dixon, a body scrub and facial by Mindy Barnes, and a new hair color, haircut and makeup by Robbin Grubbs. Robert Wright, the owner of the Cheesebarn, hosted the entire after party for Denise’s close family and friends as well as a gift certificate for a dinner for two that he gave to Denise. Denise stopped by the next week at Completely Pampered Spa… she was still transformed and looked fantastic and brought us a beautiful bouquet of flowers – always giving… we love you, Denise.
