Perfect Complements – Kathryn Harlow and James Whedon

Kate and James met in April of 2012. Kate is a Veterinarian and the Chief of Staff at Banfield Pet Hospital in Panama City. James is a Firefighter and EMT and works for the Freeport Fire Department in Walton County.

On their first date they met for a simple lunch at Pier Park, followed by a walk through the nature trails at St. Andrews State Park, and then also had dinner together at Dusty’s Oyster Bar. Kate says: “Neither of us can pinpoint the exact moment we knew we fell in love, but James tells me he knew after three months that he wanted to marry me. And I knew I wanted to marry him after one of my kittens (at the time) accidentally scratched James’ face open in such a way that James ended up at the ER. When back home, James still picked up the little kitten and loved on him.” On November 10, 2012 James proposed to Kate on Main Street in Walt Disney World and Kate said “Yes”. Kate states: “James is such a caring and considerate person and husband” and James about her: “Kate is focused on the needs of others – always putting the needs of those around her first.”

And they conclude: “Our personalities blend together which makes the relationship very effortless and easy to work within.” When asked whether their life changed since they became husband and wife, Kate reflects: “Yes and No – our basic life hasn’t changed, but when making the decisions for the future, there have been situations where we can no longer just decide what’s best for one or the other, but focus on decisions that will benefit us both in not only the short term but the long term as well.” The two seem made for each other and we ask if they have tips for couples who want to get married or are freshly married? “Plan, Plan, Plan – we recommend at least 6-12 months of an engagement period since you will be planning the wedding – and that can be stressful – you will find out more about your partner during the planning period and how well the both of you communicate – and communication is the most important part of any marriage.”

Thanks to all of our friends that helped to set up the day before the wedding, make centerpieces, and help clean up the next day.  An extra big thanks to our photographer Sonja Revells as she helped provide us with the opportunity for our wedding to be published.  The country club was also very easy to work with and created a beautiful setting for our day.
