Pensacola Opera Dinner
The Panama City Music Association invited patrons to “Dinner & Arias at Capt. Anderson’s.” Participants enjoyed an evening of excellent food accompanied by dramatic musical performances by an ensemble of Pensacola Opera singers and musicians.
Proceeds from the dinner helped to fund the transportation buses for more than 2,000 school kids to attend the performance of “Jack and the Beanstalk,” a John Davies children’s opera, at the Marina Civic Center.
The PC Music Association collaborated with the Pensacola Opera Artists in Residence Program and the outreach events conducted by Pensacola Opera in which it sent six singers and an accompanist from its Artist in Residence program to schools and community events in order to promote opera, especially to young people.
Approximately 2,400 second graders from all Bay County public schools and two schools from Port St. Joe filled the Marina Civic Center to capacity. All were enthralled by the presentation and the introductory and interactive remarks by Production Manager Jessica Myers, who covered audience etiquette, definition of opera (storytelling with singing and music) and gave them the “cue” phrase to start the opera. All 2,400 kids shouted in unison “Opera Rocks” and the curtain opened and the show began.
