The Panama City Lions Club was off to the races at its first Blindfolded Regatta, held at the Panama City Marina on May 28. Teams of two competed against each other by rowing out to and around a buoy 100 feet away from the shore. The race challenged participants by having one team member give directions while the other rowed the boat blindfolded. The participants raced on dinghy boats provided by Captain Stan Jones, Executive Director of the Panama City Marina. Albert Sauline, president of the Panama City Lions Club, said that the funds raised at the event will facilitate access to eye exams, glasses, and service dogs for those with impaired eyesight. Money raised also helps fund sight-saving surgical procedures. The PC Lions Club plans to hold its second Blindfolded Regatta next year.
