MYFEVER BAND RELEASES “Twin B”

From their Atlanta home/compound, where they livestream their practice sessions on Instagram, MYFEVER is consistently churning out one hit after another. And in a way unlike many of their contemporaries. I suppose that’s what happens when obsessed young songwriters strike gold in their living room and spend every waking moment mining the good stuff. It’s one of those environments where magic breeds magic—like Gertrude Stein’s Paris apartment in the 1930s—where friends are always around, making music as quickly and as recklessly as possible, until the well dries up or they die. Whichever comes first.

Twin B is a follow-up to MYFEVER’s 2016 recordings, Twin A. The simplest way to describe the band’s latest 2-song release is to imagine the purity and alchemy of the 1970s (when rock was too young to be bothered with rules) and fast forward to the genre’s golden age counterpart some years later.

The boys haven’t backed off their mandate for making arena tunes. The words are still singable. The guitars still hit like a barbed wire ball bat to the skull. But somehow, the dynamic has continued to rise; most likely a testament to the band’s resident hi-fi wizard and “big bottom,” Daniel Ard. Bass reigns supreme in Twin B’s opener, “The Road,” commanding a swathe of sonic real estate, alongside Garrett Hine’s tastefully simplistic drum scheme. It’s tight. Like a grandma-needs-help-unscrewing-the-pickle-jar kind of tight.

Should you manage to pry yourself from this chemical-level fusion of low-end, you’ll revel in a shower of electric lead lines that emote with near-human quality. This is especially true when the twin takes its softer tonal footing in “22,” which listens like a spiritual sequel to their Born for Spaces single, “Childhood Keepsake, Circa 1991.” The writing here isn’t too shabby, either. Vocalist, Weston Hine, returns to the same vulnerable spot that has become so signature to the band’s more sentimental anthems. Familiar scenarios of self-discovery and rebirth ooze with poetry…

Do you remember when I was 22… // and you’d crawl yourself into my twin and ask me to dim the room. // Fire! Fire! That word was true. // I’d try to find the silver lining inside my pissed off views. […] God didn’t make revival for the white-as-snow… // So march yourself down to that river and clean you head-to-toe. // Cold! Cold! that water ran. // So I tucked myself into her current, and I stood up, yeah I stood up a man.

If you’ve been a MYFEVER fan long, you know that hearing a song for the first time is like being introduced to your best friend’s kid all over again. You instantly know who its parents are, and you love it right away, but it takes some listening to appreciate the unique subtleties in its voice. The band’s latest birthing is no different. Only, this time, it’s twins…

Twin B is available on iTunes, Apple Music, Google Play, Amazon Music and Spotify. Be sure to see the band on June 9th at Robert’s Hall in Panama City or check out their website (www.myfeverband.com) for upcoming tour dates in your area.
