Bay Point Women’s Club – 24th Annual Charity Auction

“Giving Back to Local Charities”

The Bay Point Women’s Club, Bay Point’s oldest organization, was established more than 25 years ago “for the betterment of self and the community.” Today, the Club has approximately 250 members. The Club was started to encourage community spirit and assist in every way possible to enhance life at Bay Point. That is still one of the main goals of the Club today as well as helping the Bay County community with major contributions to local charities. The Club awards two scholarships each year to students entering college.

Members and guests are invited to the Bay Point Women’s Club’s signature event, the Annual Charity Auction. Every November the Club holds the auction to raise funds for local charities. This event is traditionally held at the Wyndham Bay Point Resort and includes silent and live auctions.

This year attendees enjoyed a succulent lunch with the main course of blackened mahi-mahi topped with lemon caper butter sauce, New Orleans dirty rice, sautéed green beans and red peppers, with Key lime pie for dessert.

Auction Chair, Mia Howard, introduced “NewsChannel 7 Today” co-anchor and reporter Meredith TerHaar, auctioneer for the afternoon. The auction earned approximately $40,000 for charity.

The Bay Point Women’s Club was established by resident Dotty Reams. At Bay Point’s most pivotal moment when the future of the development was very uncertain, Dotty inspired friends and neighbors to come together and organize a community organization that, with one voice, could express Bay Point’s hopes, concerns and energy. Her efforts were spectacularly successful and resulted in community standards and expectations that continue to this day. Dotty passed away in 2010. Each year the “Dotty Reams Service Award” is awarded to a member to help remind us that we have a lot to be proud of and inspire us all to do better every year.
