Readers’ Choice Award 2018
This year marks the fifth instalment of celebrating the winners of our Readers’ Choice Award. Our readers voted and picked their favorite service providers, as well as places to shop and dine in Bay County. Votes also poured in for favorite entertainers, things to do, and places to be. We are proudly recognizing the hard work, service, and dedication to our community our award recipients have shown throughout the years. All winners were invited to celebrate and receive their award and enjoy great food and live music. A big “thank you” goes to the team of event planners who worked together to prepare a wonderful outdoor-reception area. Unfortunately, the weather did not quite agree with our plans. Within minutes, the entire event had to be moved indoors following a sudden torrential downpour with 30-mile per hour winds. Our very special thanks go to Sheraton Bay Point Resort, Hallmark Flower Shoppe, Events by Nouveau 30A, and Signature Events for their tireless efforts to make the event special, despite the outdoor-failure, broken glass, and wet furniture. As diverse the businesses and individuals are that/ who have received our Readers’ Choice Award, they all have one thing in common–they have achieved excellence and continue to work hard to maintain it. Our event shines the spotlight on owners, managers, and dedicated teams in more than 120 categories. It’s quite amazing how several categories see particularly high numbers of votes. In some instances, we even had two winners with equal voters. It is not a surprise that many of the winners are long established in our area–operated by families for generations. They continuously receive an outpouring of love and often win by a landslide. What is special this year is the list of businesses who received our Readers’ Choice Award for the last five consecutive years. Of course, there are also newcomers who have captured our readers’ hearts after being in business for a short time. We welcome them to our list of exceptionally-loved local businesses. It was a great event, and while with 120 categories we are not able to recognize everyone during a ceremony, our photographer Rachel Lauen did a marvelous job capturing the recipients with their awards.
