What’s In Your Closet?
Closets hold heirlooms, closets hold secrets, and closets hold treasures, dreams and hopes.
We were not after dirty laundry when we asked local residents the question: “What’s in your closet?” The question quickly became a wonderful way to learn more about a person’s life and bits and pieces about their past, the paths they have taken, the lessons they have learned and the plans they had. Have a peek into local personalities’ homes and lives as they open up their closets and share anecdotes and stories with us while showing off items that are special to them, items that they will never part with and items that will always be vivid reminders of what once was and still is special.[/box]
Jackie Rinker, Vice President and Market Manager of Clear Channel Radio, Panama City, talks about the blue dress: “We lived in Orlando when I first started dating Larry, my husband. This was about twenty years ago. He invited me to a black tie gala. It was our first big date. I bought the blue dress for the occasion. It’s a Lillie Rubin dress. We looked great together. We had a glass of wine first and ended up being some of the last guests to enter the banquet hall. A guy walked in with us and we chatted a bit with him and joked about being late. He was a really nice guy, had long curly hair, and he was carrying something. We entered the room just in time, found our table and, as we sat down, the room went dark. Seconds later there was a spotlight right close to us. In fact, it was aimed right at our table and in front of us appeared a saxophone player, playing the most beautiful song to just the two of us. It was one of our most special and romantic moments. The song became our song. It is called “Forever in Love”… we dance to it every time we hear it now. The nice guy from before was world-famous saxophone player, Kenny G., carrying his saxophone. Needless to say, the dress will be in my closet FOREVER. And I still wear it sometimes.” Jackie liked the cut of the dress so much that she custom ordered her wedding dress in the same cut and style… only in white and as a long dress, of course.
Jackie also shows off a pair of heels that she wore exactly one time – to an iHeart Radio concert in Las Vegas. “I thought I needed something that looked a bit “rock ‘n roll” she said. “As I went down the stairs there was an extra step that I had not seen… my ankle twisted and I fell.“
Her husband Larry added “She still didn’t leave the concert. She got some ice and the staff tended to her. We got upgraded to being backstage and got to see the concert up-close while she was sitting in a wheel chair. When the leg kept bothering her, we went to the hospital and found out her ankle was broken. We couldn’t even fly back home because she was not allowed to fly.” He added with a ‘my-wife-is-tough’ look.
