On a mission: Mosey’s – New venue in downtown Panama City

A new music venue opened its doors in downtown Panama City off Harrison at 425 Grace Avenue, facing the back of the Martin Theater. What the building lacks in main street visibility and curb appeal it makes up in character, soul, and especially space. What was a bar/restaurant until it closed in 2010 has now been remodeled and re-opened this September while evoking the sense that it has always been there. Sitting down at the worn mahogany bar is like slipping into your favorite pair of boots. Many hours have been spent here. Business meetings, reunions, dates, celebrations and more than a few good times were had in this old bar and you can feel it. Somehow it is aged, but not dated. Much work has gone into the building. Hand- built tables made from reclaimed wood adorn the large main hall. In addition to the cozy bar and the main hall, the building features several large rooms, one of them sporting a pool table, cork dartboards and a ping-pong table. The size of this new venue impresses and, just when you think the tour is done, swinging stained glass doors open into a roughly 1100 square foot music venue.

Co-owners Judd Manuel and Phillip Mercer can be found at Mosey’s nearly any time. Each in their mid-to-late twenties, they bring a sense of freshness to the business. Ambitious as they are, they have been making things happen. Behind the bar you will find over 100 craft and domestic beers as well as a modest choice of wines. The beer selection is the largest that can be found in Bay County east of the Hathaway Bridge. The owners, with their chef Pat Hunt, are still hard at work renovating the kitchen. Their mission is to run the kitchen with the same care and commitment and innovation as the craft breweries whose beer you will find offered at Mosey’s.

Mosey’s offers a great hometown experience, live music, an exceptional beer selection, and it is clearly another stepping stone to a revived Downtown Panama City.

The bar is open seven days a week from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m., and they mean it. The open sign never goes off early. Drinks are served by a staff that loves what they do and are all invested in the business in some manner; bringing their skills, their time, and their passion. They care about music. They care about craft beer. They care about quality food and they care about providing great service. Mosey’s offers a great hometown experience, live music, an exceptional beer selection, and it is clearly another stepping stone to a revived Downtown Panama City.
