“WHEN THE STUDENT IS READY, THE TEACHER APPEARS.” This quote is often heard among yoga and martial arts teachers and students. The meaning was not quite clear to me until I discovered yoga. I distinctly remember thinking, “I am home, my mind is quiet, I am centered, I am calm.” I felt rejuvenated after my  rst class and the teacher left a profound impression. I felt I had met “a true teach- er.” There was an instant desire to dedicate my life to help others experience the same peaceful place within–through the practice of yoga.
Yoga is often described as life changing. However, it’s not yoga
that changes your life but rather you who transforms through the practice of yoga. I’ve seen this over and over again with the students I teach. When people work through the challenges of life–the death of a spouse, illnesses, issues with children, career stresses–yoga can be a tool that guides them to heal from the inside out and retreat to an untroubled quietude within.
For me, above all, yoga has become a de ning experience of “self” and continuous personal growth–a means of becoming all I’m capable of being. I am immensely grateful to teach individual and group students every day, and the quote above has become clearer and more meaningful through my teaching. Among the hundreds of students I have taught individually or in a group setting, many have continued their path and studied with me in our 200-Hour Yoga Training. Some even becoming certi ed yoga teachers.
My personal de nitions of teacher and student often interchange. Teaching people to experience the peaceful silence within has be- come a passion, and I am grateful for the opportunity to teach and learn from my students.

Caroline San Juan Czubaj interned at the world-renowned Cooper Institute in Dallas before earning a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and a master’s in business management. In former roles as director of two Florida hospital wellness centers, she evaluated and implemented new exercise and wellness programs. As a columnist for The Miami Herald and contributor to Your Health magazine, Caroline has researched and reported on health-related topics throughout her career. She has co-authored Optimum Performance Training: Basketball (ReganBooks: HarperCollins) with Dr. Micheal Clark, former President/CEO of NASM. Credentials: Yoga Alliance certi ed yoga instructor with over 4,700 teaching hours (E-RYT 500) | Certi ed Corrective Exercise Specialist with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM-CES) Certi ed Personal Trainer with NASM, and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)
