On the Cover :Note from the PublisherLIVINGwww.PanamaCityLiving.comMarch-April 2018Many of us know her as upbeat, happy, kind, and career driven. Some of us have noticed that she loves wearing heels but only her closest family and friends know she has had diabetes since she was a little girl and was recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Our frequent contributor, Olivia Crosby, describes her life and o ers encouragement to everyone who faces health challenges. I have to be honest, when I rst read her contribution, I had to choke back tears. No, she certainly has not written a sad account of living with these two autoimmune de ciencies. On the contrary, she lists the facts without much ado. You have to read between the lines to imagine what she goes through every day. In doing so, I realized I have never heard Olivia com- plain. Her story truly puts things into perspective. I received an email from her shortly before this issue went to print in which she wrote; “...thank you SO much for allowing me to share my story; it means the world to me.” This is the person she is; Humble, positive, and determined to make a di erence. I know she will have a positive impact on anyone who reads the story. It begins on page 26.PANAMA CITYHEALTH BALANCE& HAPPINESSSeen on the cover are David Bulger and girlfriend Emma enjoying the day at St. Andrews State Park in Florida.David is a yoga teacher and shares his perspectives on page 54.PERSPECTIVESARE YOU MAN ENOUGH FOR YOGA?NORTHWEST FLORIDA'SART, CULTURE, AND HISTORIC TREASURESHealth, balance, happiness–our central topics for March and April have opened opportunities to o er a selection of health facts and hacks on page 42 and present insights about yoga. When people become aware health is their most valuable asset, their path often leads to yoga. But I dare to say yoga is female-dominated in the western hemisphere. With the dozens of yoga teachers in our area, only a few are male. We interviewed three yogis about their underrepresented gender in the bends and folds of physical and mental exercises. Be prepared for a few twists as all three describe how their life has changed in following ancient teachings. It starts on page 54.Our area is home to several acclaimed physicians who are presenting their quali cations and experiences starting on page 33 in the advertorial section of this issue.Several other articles in this issue have an underlying message of well-being and happiness, whether you read about the gardeners Jonnie Smallmanand Annette Williams on page 64 and 68, or entrepreneur Lynne Henslee’s adventurous spirit on page 73, or the success stories of two of Northwest Florida’s artists and gallery owners on pages 79 and 81. Many paths lead to happiness.Wishing you a happy and healthy Spring,-Val val@PanamaCityLiving.com"With happiness as with health: to enjoy it, one should be de-8 • March - April 2018 • www.PanamaCityLiving.comprived of it occasionally.”– Jules Verne,"The Tribulations of a Chinaman in China"PHOTOGRAPHER: MICHAEL BOOINI
